June 5, 2024

John Doherty EngTech LCGI MCIPHE MIGEM RP RHP has been elected as the 100th President of SNIPEF, with a commitment to actively engage with members and focus on three strategic areas over the next 12 months.

Succeeding President John Baxter at SNIPEF’s Annual General Meeting in May, Doherty remarked, "I view this opportunity not merely as an honour, but as a platform from which I can help drive change and progress for an association now entering its 101st year."

Doherty's leadership will focus on three critical areas:

Skills development: Addressing ongoing skills shortages by enhancing training and apprenticeship programmes, preparing a new generation for the evolving demands of the plumbing and heating industry.

Greater Government collaboration: Ensuring that sustainability targets are realistic and achievable through active dialogue and partnership with government bodies.

Enhanced public engagement: Increasing SNIPEF's visibility and educating the public on the value of choosing SNIPEF members through effective communication strategies.

Doherty also plans to use his presidency to engage with members to better understand their challenges and identify ways SNIPEF can support them. He stated, "As someone who manages the complexities of running a plumbing business, I bring firsthand insights that will resonate with both our members and external stakeholders. It's my mission to connect with and learn from our members, to listen, collaborate, and drive meaningful changes that help shape the future of our profession."

Educated at Clydebank College, Cardonald College, and Glasgow College of Building and Printing, John is a qualified Master Plumber and certified Gas Technician. Since founding John Doherty & Co Ltd in 1999, based in Old Kilpatrick, he has developed his business to include a broad range of building services, employing 19 full-time staff.
